Lord Nicholls of Birkenhead died on 25 September; his death was reported in the Times on 24 October, on which day a lengthy obituary appeared on page 53 of that newspaper.
Donald James Nicholls entered School in 1943 and left in 1949. He was educated at Liverpool University and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He pursued a very distinguished career as a lawyer, details of which are fully covered in the obituary. His portrait, painted by C W Oliver in 1990, hangs in the Bushell Hall at School.
